The 3M Open concluded on Sunday with Kurt Kitayama lifting the second trophy of his PGA Tour career. Now, attention shifts to the final event of the PGA Tour before the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Golfers will be striving to improve their rankings at the Wyndham Championship, which tees off Thursday.
However, just one day into the week, there is already news concerning multiple competitors: several have chosen to forgo their spots in the field. Most notable among them is Wyndham Clark, who finished last week’s event tied for 12th place — his sudden withdrawal will come as a surprise to many fans but is likely tied to that strong finish. Clark moved up to 48th in the standings and clinched a spot in next week playoff opener, the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Others who opted not to play include Jhonattan Vegas, Jeremy Paul and Mackenzie Hughes. Their departures have opened up several spots, which were quickly filled by reserves and sponsor exemptions.
