Nlarebiscompetinginthe2024U.S.AdaptiveOpenatSandCreekStationinKansas.It’shisfirsttimeintheUnitedStates,andheisthefirstplayerfromCameroontocompeteintheevent.HisjourneytomiddleAmericaisaboutasincredibleashisgolfgame,allofwhichwasnearlytakenfromhimaftercontractingbacterialmeningitisin2017.
“ThewayTigerwouldcomebackafterallofthethings,itjustgivesmethecouragetocontinue,”Nlarebsaid.
DreamofgolfintheU.S.fulfilledNlarebhaslongdreamedtocometoAmericatoplaygolf.Itwasn’tuntilthisweekhegothischance.
GrowingupinAfrica,Nlarebwas11yearsoldwhenhismotherdied,leavinghimhomeless.It’sthenwhenhesaidhehadtochoosebetweenalifeonthestreetsorpickinggolfballsandworkingforfood.
