ThePalmBeachCountyjuryonOct.20foundthattheNicklausCos.activelyparticipatedinthefalsepublishingoffactsthatdamagedNicklaus’reputationandexposedhimto“ridicule,hatred,mistrust,distrustorcontempt.”
Thesix-personpanelalsoruledinfavorofbillionairebankerHowardMilstein,theexecutivechairmanoftheNicklausCos.,andNicklausCos.executiveAndrewO’Brien,bothofwhomwerenamedindividuallyinthedefamationlawsuit.
ThatportionoftheverdictmeansMilsteinandO’BrienarenotrequiredtopayNicklausdamagesaswell.
AttorneysforallpartiespresentedtheirclosingargumentsOct.20,andjurorsdeliberatedforaboutfour-and-a-halfhours,returningtothecourtroomshortlybefore6:30p.m.toannouncetheirverdict.
