AFloridajuryhasawardedJackNicklaus$50millioninhisdefamationsuitagainsthisformerbusinesspartnersandthecompanythatbearshisname.ThePalmBeachCountyjuryfoundthattheNicklausCompanieshadparticipatedindistributing,andactivelyencouragedthepublicationof,falsecontentionsthatdamagedNicklaus’reputation,exposinghimto“ridicule,hatred,mistrustorcontempt.”
NicklausallegedthattheNicklausCompanies,inthecourseoflegalactioninwhichhesoughttoregaintherighttousehisownnameinbusinessdealings,madefalsestatementsaboutNicklaus’connectionstoLIVGolf.Thefalsestatements,widelydistributed,indicatedthatNicklauswasconsideringa$750millionoffertobecomeoneofLIVGolf’spublicfacesatthetimeofitscreationintheearly2020s.
