Scottie Scheffler’s run at the 2025 U.S. Open ended in heartbreak. The world No. 1, who came into Oakmont Country Club as a heavy favorite, couldn’t overcome the course’s brutal challenges.
A crucial three-putt late in the final round derailed his momentum, leaving him tied for seventh.
“If I had four days like I did today, I think it would have been a different story,” Scheffler reflected in his media session on Sunday.
His error-filled start and missed opportunities proved costly, as J.J. Spaun swooped in with a clutch finish to claim his maiden major title.
While Spaun celebrated his dramatic win, Scheffler’s comments earlier in the week about Oakmont’s toughness echoed louder than ever.
“It’s challenging,” he admitted. “This golf course is tough. … Collin [Morikawa], Viktor [Hovland] and I were laughing in scoring yesterday because there was one instance yesterday where Collin kind of walked through my line because he got flustered by chipping it over green.”
