RichardBadger,directorofWeBlackWeGolfinMilwaukee,saidtheoriginstoryforthegroupisataleasoldastime.Aboutfiveyearsago,thegroup’sfounder,MarshallMartin,wentgolfingattheSilverSpringgolfcourseinMenomoneeFallswhenhenoticedagroupofwhitemalesgivinghimthe“sideeye,”Badgersaid.
Martindidn’tletthemomentpassbeforeexclaiming,“Yeah,weBlack,wegolf.”
HewasinspiredtostartaFacebookgrouponJuly30,2018,whichhasgrowntomorethan7,500followersaroundtheworldandledtothecreationofthenonprofitWeBlackWeGolfacoupleyearslater.Sincethen,thegrouphasworkedtoimproveparticipationinthesportbyutilizingthegametodevelopnetworkingandphilanthropyskillsandofferinglessons.
